Come to the Thompson Center/State of IL building on Friday 3/22 @ 11:30 to tell lawmakers & frackers that we want green jobs, not dirty fracking in IL!
Fracking in IL could start with the next few months if we don’t push for stronger action.
Southern Illinois and the Shawnee National Forest are in immediate danger.
We will engage in the creative action putting larger than life caution tape around the Thompson Center to show that fracking will turn IL into a toxic mess.
Fracking companies have leased lands in Southern Illinois and are poised to start using hydraulic fracturing to drill for oil. This method of obtaining oil and gas has contaminated air, water and land in other states and made people sick!
Our Governor and lawmakers are ‘rolling out the red carpet’ for frackers under the guise of providing jobs by creating a regulatory bill that provides some minor protection, but largely leaves communities in central and southern Illinois vulnerable. This bill has language from a model bill crafted by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) a lobby group that acts in the interests of corporations, not people.
Why can’t we have jobs that don’t harm workers and contaminate our water and air?
